Making your own knife is one of the most hands-on and rewarding experiences! You’ll get to dive into every step of the creative process. Feel free to sketch out your knife design ahead of time, just keep in mind that the biggest knife you can make during this class is 11 inches (28 cm) long.

We’ll kick things off by forging the rough shape of your knife with a sledgehammer and forging hammer. Then, you’ll refine its profile using linishers. Once that’s done, we’ll harden and temper the blade to ensure it has the right mix of hardness, toughness, and flexibility. After that, it’s time to choose some wood for your handle and attach it using glue and brass rivets.

After lunch, we’ll focus on shaping the handle using a hand grinder, sandpaper, and files. Finally, we’ll sharpen your blade and give your knife a beautiful finishing touch with a beeswax treatment to protect the wood and highlight its natural patterns. Get ready for a fantastic day of crafting!
